Doctors Claim ‘Hood Disease’ Afflicts Inner-City Youth

bawjazminependleton's avatarBlack America Web

Harvard doctors have coined the term ?hood disease? to describe a complex form of post-traumatic stress syndrome threatening the well-being of inner-city youth, reports The Root.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that nearly 30 percent of U.S. inner-city youths are affected by the disorder, which makes it difficult for them to learn. Those who exhibit the disorder often live in virtual war zones, the CDC report says.

Doctors at Harvard recently coined the name “hood disease,” a term for a more complex form of PTSD, the news site reports. And since the youths rarely escape their communities—unlike soldiers who eventually leave a war zone—they are repeatedly exposed to trauma.

Pointing to the lack of food security, rampant violence and a culture of fear that permeates inner-cities across the country, San Francisco State University associate professor Jeff Duncan-Andrade told KPIX 5 that education is secondary to survival…

The Creed of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him

The Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa ‘aalihi wa sallam) said: “O Allah, You are the first: there is nothing before You; and You are the last: there is nothing after You. You are the Manifest (adh-Dhahir): there is nothing above You. You are the Hidden (al-Batin): there is nothing below You” (Sahih Muslim).

Imam al-Bayhaqi: “What was mentioned towards the end of the hadith is an indication of denying Allah has a place and denying the slave is alike to Allah, wherever he was, in proximity or remoteness. Allah, the Exalted, is adh-Dhahir – hence, it is valid to know about Him by proofs. Allah is al-Batin – hence, it is invalid that He would be in a place….Therefore, if there is nothing above Him and nothing underneath Him, He is not in a place” (Imam al-Bayhaqi…

muslim family cartoonThis khutba is about marriage, divorce and how we treat our wives. We are leaving a long trail of broken and severely dysfunctional families due to misbehavior, irresponsibility and  downright trifling behavior. As Muslims, we should know better, and we have to do better. There is no such thing as a perfect family, but there is a standard of behavior with respect to our families that we must uphold. This is the topic of this khutbatul Jum’ah at Masjid Ibrahim Islamic Center in Sacramento California. Warning: This khutba is graphic and deals with very serious issues. The Salafi Da’wah in Disarray – “He Can’t Even Recite an Aayah from the Quraan Properly—Even if the Noble Mushaf were [open] in Front of Him—Let Alone the Fact that He will Make Many Mistakes when [simply] Reading a Hadith of the Prophet ﷺ. It is the Love of Fame. It is Self-centredness, ‘I am here, I have Knowledge. Maa shaa Allaah about Me.'”

Excerpt from article:
That is why many times we find individuals, some “callers, that can be benefitted from in terms of knowledge but not in manners—because he brought himself up on knowledge but was not in a righteous environment in which he was raised from childhood, and for this reason he lives carrying the manners which he inherited from that society in which he exists and in which he is found, and it is a society which without doubt is not an Islamic one, but he was able to, by himself or with the direction of some of the people of knowledge, follow the path of [obtaining] correct knowledge, but the effects of this knowledge are not seen in his manners, in his behaviour, in his actions.”
